How to keep your 360 cooler than Vanilla Ice

The whole overheating issue with the Xbox 360 has been pretty low-key over the past several months. Maybe the problem tapered out, or people just figured out resourceful ways to cool their system. Here's another way to keep it chilled if you're still having problems or are just looking for a much better way to do it.

Enter the Antec Notebook cooler. This thing was designed for computers, but wait: it flawlessly doubles as a base cooler for the Xbox 360 too. The pearly aesthetics even follow suit with the console. If you've been keeping an eye out for a ridiculously easy way to cool your 360, here's your solution. Not to mention it isn't terribly expensive for the use. You can pick this thing up for as little as $27 at some places.

The writer mentions that she conducted a test by placing it in a cramped up space with and without the notebook cooler. Within 30 minutes, it came to a screeching halt. However, after adding the new peripheral and placing it back in the unventilated area, the Xbox 360 ran for three hours without so much as a hiccup. Try this out and let us know how it works with your own setup!

1. too bad I was already using this back in '05.

the only downside is it's pretty noisy...as if the 360 wasn't loud enough already.

2. I bought one of these a few months ago at CompUSA (they had a rebate going at the time, and the price came to only $10). It has worked great. It has two settings if you think noise is a factor (personally, I can't even hear the noise of the cooler, since the 360 is so loud itself).

3. I bought something like this in January while I was waiting for my replacement 360. It was only $20, has two fans and is really quiet.
Works great, but didn't help much with my current 360 problem (mine died with the dashboard update and now I'm waiting again...hope it doesn't take 6 weeks this time).

4. If your 360 is locking up due to heat issues, you really should call MS and have them replace it. It's not too late.

You shouldn't need any of cooling device.

5. I think the whole overheating thing is BS. There were maybe a few people that had some kind of problem, but the vast majority have no issue. Now, enterprising companies and jumping on the bandwagon and coming out with cooling stuff.

I went through the same thing with TiVo. Everyone on messageboards claimed their TiVos were overheating. There is a menu that shows the temp and it said next to it 'normal'. They still wouldn't accept this normal and freaked out that it was too hot.

6. Buy.com has it for 18.99 w/ free shipping after rebate. Could be worth it for those who have it in an enclosed area. I have used this since the beginning even though it is in a well ventilated area. Spent too much money on the thing to risk it dying and shipping back to MSFT.

7. Check out the story. Look a the picture. He has his antec laptop cooler and Xbox 360 sitting ontop of a Motorola DCT-6xxx series cable box. Those things vent a plethora of hot air out the top of the system. No wonder he was experiencing overheating issues. Keep your Home Theatre components separated and well vented people! SHEESH

8. I have no need for this product or any of its kind.

I think it is in peoples minds that these will actually do something. It is like blowing fresh air on the right side of your computer case to cool down your processor and video card. Its not going to do anything, and if it does its all in your head.

Now, lets let this overheating issue be.

9. Sometimes I think I'm wasting money buying game after game letting my pile build... then I see waste of money contraptions like these. Only in comparison to Crime Life: Gang Wars does this piece of junk start to look good.
