What are you playing: Old School edition

This is an interesting week. We are fast approaching the hectic holiday season, the PS3 finally launched today, and the Halo 3 hype train is at full steam. I was a little disappointed that my wild speculation about Bungie's Marathon coming to Arcade was wrong, so I decided to download it for PC. It is free, after all. It takes a tiny extra step to make it run on PC (it was originally a Mac title) but it's worth it for a piece of Halo history (does that hand in the screenshot look familiar?). If you're having trouble installing, go here.

Back on 360, of course there is Gears, I'm still collecting gold bricks in Lego Star Wars II, and chasing after the "Bulletproof" Achievement in Contra. Frankly, winning with one credit is hard, but I won't be satisfied until I can do it in one life. How 'bout the rest of you? What are you playing this weekend? Hit me up if you want to play some Gears or the Vegas demo. (Any 360 fanboys brave enough to admit they're hoping to play Resistance?)

Leaderboards (time for Mk. III?):

1. I have to make a business trip, but when I get back, I intend to play more Viva Pinata. And maybe some Big Bumpin' online.

2. gears and, after sunday, probably some big bumpin', sneak king and pocketbike racer! (and i tend to go back to texas hold 'em quite a bit)

3. Gears and CoD3.. was thinking about renting Marvel: UA. I'll probably check out the Vegas multiplayer demo as well.

4. Gears, COD3, NBA 2k7 and maybe a little contra.

By the way, are the BK games worth trying out?

5. Gears of War! My wife is still playing tons of Halo 2, of course!

6. I'll be playing Gears and the Vegas demo just to hold me over 'til Sunday when this Xbox360 fanbay isn't afraid to admit that he'll be playing with his Wii all day!!!

7. Sneak King is IMHO awful (the left and right rotation is backwards on the camera, Sonic style).

Big Bumpin' is the 2nd bite at the Fuzion Frenzy apple for this developer (they developed the first Fuzion Frenzy, but had the title taken from them by Microsoft and given to Hudson for FF2), if you dig that kind of one screen minigame thing, with online play, then you're going to enjoy BB.

Pocketbike Racer I played, but not enough to really give you a good opinion on it.

OXBM rated all three games in the most recent issue too (if you haven't seen it yet).

Big Bumpin' got a 5.0, Sneak King got a 6.0, and Pocketbike Racer got a 6.5.

I think their scores are not quite correct. Remember that the games are only four bucks each, which is less than the price of Dig Dug on XBLA. They're somewhere between XBLA and full games (originally they were supposed to be XBLA titles).

You should definitely check out the interview with the guy from Blitz games on the subject:

8. I will be continuing playing gears on Insane mode, and dare I say hopefully buying a Wii on Sunday.

9. I'm still playing UMK3 on Arcade from time to time, Splinter Cell: Double Agent, Phantasy Star Universe and the R6:Vegas demo and still playing the Lost Planet demo from E3.

10. After beating Gears on Insane mode (RAAM was hard as hell) and getting a few of the online achievements, I've gone back to finish up Oblivion. I'll also be playing some Tiger Woods 07 this weekend.

11. Just finished Tony Hawk's Project 8 (in 7th place), and started COD3, but it's not as fun as the last one, so I'm finishing up Prey. DYing is for losers…

12. Finished Gears of War on Hardcore a few nights ago... The game just doesn't seem as hard when you have your Halo 2-co-op wingman playing with you... Act 5 only took us 45 minutes to finish.

You know what that means... it's time for Insane mode.

When not playing gears, I've been playing NBA 2k7. I may sell SC:DA and GRAW.

13. I'm playing Final Fantasy XII though I hope to be playing Zelda by the end of the weekend. Maybe some Gears of War or Tony Hawk thrown in there. Maybe.

14. Most likely I'll start Insane mode on Gears of War before picking it up a notch in ranked multiplayer. Wrapping up some achievements in Marvel: UA. Can't wait for the BK games (I will be getting all three, and fat from all the value meals).

Being an equal opportunity fanboy, I will be standing in line for a Wii on Saturday night. Can't wait...

15. I'll be swapping between Splinter Cell, Gears, Marvel and yes...I too am hooked on the Viva Pinata.

16. 1 Credit on XBLA Contra is easy enough with the Konami code

17. "1 Credit on XBLA Contra is easy enough with the Konami code"

I thought Achievements were disabled when the code was entered... Perhaps not?

18. I will be playing nothing on my 360 due to it freezing all of the time... and I'm not the only one... check out how popular this forum has been on microsoft's forum site.

maybe i'll be able to get my hands on a wii.

19. Maybe they are that would suck...haven't tried it myself yet

Posted at 1:22PM on Nov 17th 2006 by KingOfGods 0 stars

20. I admit Resistance looks tight (easily the best PS3 launch title), but something kept bugging me about. I mean, YES it's basically yet another attempt for Sony at creating their own Halo, but it looks pretty sweet.

Then it dawned on me - the lead character (the guy you play) is totally annonymous: no Master Chief, no Marcus Fenix.... just some 'guy'. I dunno, I hope the PS3 does moderately well to keep the ownus on 360 devs to always be better. Better games, better graphics, better online... MS has the lead, now they need to keep it.
