Custom Rockstar Table Tennis 360

Give credit for coming up with a Rockstar-commissioned Table Tennis case mod that goes beyond the usual paint job and faceplate. One of these babies is destined for a future give-away, but if you have the time and desire to build your own ping pong prize, they provide a list of supplies and directions.

360 goes portable, LAN party in a box

360 Fanboy reader, Vince, has sent us word of his newest creation, the Ackibox (short for Acrobatic Box). The Ackibox is an all in one solution for toting your 360 around. With space for controllers and its own flat panel monitor, the 360 gamer on the go will always have a 360 at a moment's notice. Vince describes his inspiration:

"Being an avid gamer, I often found myself at a friend's house, enjoying some gaming action. But there were certain annoying things about the experience, and it wasn't bad attitudes, cold pizza, or stinky feet. It was that I often found myself playing on 1/2 or 1/4 of the screen and using someone else's profile on someone else's console. I'm all for sharing, but not having the full, single-console, single-television experience can really reduce the fun (literally). Many times the difficulties of setting up and transporting the right number of consoles and televisions was the obstacle to everyone having the full experience. It often took us over an hour just to get everything setup before we could really begin playing."

While it may not be the most attractive solution -- it is a prototype after all -- the Ackibox's practicality cannot be denied. Any enterprising companies out there care to turn Vince's dream into a mass-produced reality?

MC360 XBMC Superman Returns theme

The lameness of most of the themes available on Marketplace (shift a color here, shift a color there) makes this sweet Blackbolt Superman Returns theme for the MC360 XBMC skin look that much cooler. Once again the hacking community puts the pros to shame. Put some effort in it Microsoft, especially if you're going to charge us for this stuff.

Get your custom hand-painted faceplate

Professional artist Pavel Dolgov is selling custom hand-painted 360 faceplates on eBay. Send him an "inspiration picture" along with $100 and you'll get a one-of-a-kind piece of art to grace your console. Provide the blank faceplate yourself and save $17. Of course, you could always head down to the craft store and make your own masterpiece, but it's tough to enjoy the post-mortem appreciation when you're the one who has to croak.

FIFA World Cup faceplate for cheap

Good news for soccer fans and people who buy Christmas decorations on December 26: Play-Asia has the formerly $25 "official" FIFA World Cup 2006 faceplate for post-Cup price of $6.90 (plus $4 S&H).

Xbox 360 tissue-dispensing alarm clock

Jordan Keeling, one of the snot-nosed morons (he takes it as a compliment) behind created this oddly familiar tissue-dispensing alarm clock in honor of this blog. Thanks man. There's no clock display shown in this case mod pic, but he says the ring of light functions as a snooze button. Time to re-purpose that Core System, especially if you suffer from a runny nose.

Screw chrome! Silver is the real bling

Our fine friends at Luxist have dropped the curtain on this swanky piece of 360 luxury: a solid silver faceplate. The faceplate is made by (presumably very rich) Christofle -- the name just begs to be italicized -- and designed by (also presumably very rich) Andree Putman. There will only be five (count 'em, five) manufactured in the whole wide world, and, at a cool €1000 ($1250), you'll be hard pressed to get one any time soon. Still, if you're dying to be the King of Bling Duke of Krunk, you can go check them out in the Collette boutique in Paris.

Ruby Red 360 Euro Case

XCM is trying to decide whether or not to put their "Euro" case mod into full scale production. Should they?

You got Sega Saturn in my 360!

Twistedsypmphony, head moderator guy over at Xbox-Scene, tipped us off to his Frankensteinian project, the Sat-2-360 Controller Adapter. The adapter allows players to use a Sega Saturn control on the 360. Considered by many to have the best d-pad and button layout ever, the Saturn controller is perfect for Street Fighter II or the upcoming Mortal Kombat. The adapter is still a prototype -- and ugly as sin -- but the functionality is promising. The unit is (technically) wireless, though I'd pay for the same thing with a USB adapter.

If you'd like to learn more about it -- or make one yourself -- check out the forums at Xbox-Scene. For some X-tra credit, who wants to build me one? Anybody?

Now, if SEGA would get cracking on the Live Arcade version of Virtua Fighter 2...

Let your chrome glow

It looks like the long awaited chrome controller shell from Team Xtender is nearing production. More than just a shell, this mod puts LEDs in each button, making your controller glow like radioactive skittles. Who wouldn't want that?

See a nice glowing shot after the break.

360 controllers get crunchy candy shell [update 1]

If chrome isn't your thing, you might like the Fantasy360 controller shells from Xtreme Enterprise. The shells come in all kinds of Skittle-licious colors as well as black and white. The shells look more or less like the colored, semi-transparent S controllers for the original Xbox. They should be available by the end of the month, and I can only assume that Xtreme Enterprises won't be liable if you attempt to eat your scrumptious looking controller.

The read link points to Xbox-Scene, as Xtreme Enterprise's Xbox website was down at the time of this writing.

Update 1: The site is back up. Click here or hit the read link.

Pimp my 360: chrome edition

TeamXtender has released the XCM 360 Full Chrome Case mod. Those dying to be the king of bling can pick it up now from DecalGirl. It's sure to be a hit a parties and attract more fingerprints than an iPod and PSP put together.

As an added bonus, the chrome case goes great with the chrome controller shell. Anybody plan on picking this up?

More liquid cooling goodness

Liquid cooling is the new black it seems. The boys at Xbox-Scene give us the first glimpse at a do-it-yourself liquid cooling kit for the Xbox 360. While it may not be as "cool" as the internally cooled 360 we covered last week, this kit from Koolance promises to keep your 'box frosty for the incredibly affordable price of US $394.99.

An undertaking of this magnitude can be very difficult and Koolance warns that it is "not for the faint of heart." Let me ask all the modders out there: for that price, how cool does your 360 need to be?

Naughty Faceplates

Xboxic got some interesting faceplates today from an unidentified source. These Dead or Alive faceplates are almost definitely unofficial but they certainly are, um, eye catching. There are also Scarface and Blue Dragon faceplates in there for some reason.

As far as I know, these aren't available at retail. Of course, there's nothing to stop you from making them yourself.

Anybody have any other special faceplate designs they'd like to share with the rest of the class?

Hit the read link to see more (technically safe for work, but still pretty risqué).

Water + 360 = Cool

Behold the internally water cooled 360. As noted by Xbox-Scene, there have been other -- more Frankensteinian -- water cooled 360s, but this is the first to be completely internal. All the hardware is inside the case itself. No easy task, to be sure. Dano2k0, creator of the mod, explains his inspiration:

"It had been talked about in the past about having a complete internal watercooling system and everyone doubted it would ever be possible due to the lack of space. This is when i got the idea of pulling off the impossible, and it hit my requirements perfect, a completly [sic] portable solution with the cooling needs i was after, in the exact same original sized case."

One time, I tried to cool my 360 by pouring water into the disc drive ... it didn't work.

[Thanks Revadarth and GP2S]
