Saints Row demo joins the XBLM gang

If your world view is obstructed by the rock under which you live, you may not have noticed that a demo for Saints Row has hit Marketplace. Go get it and tell us what you think.

On a side note, posts might be a little wonky for a while, as technical difficulties (my Evil Office Webfilter ®) prevent more timely posts. Please bear with us as we get back up to speed. Of course, if you don't live in America, the posts might actually be more timely.

Anywho, grab the Saints Row demo and tell us how Krunk it is.

2. Awesome demo. Could be a real hit for the 360 when it arrives.

Posted at 7:16PM on Aug 1st 2006 by Craig 0 stars

3. The demo wasnt good. simple friendly facts: slow framerate when only driving, "hitting people with cars" physics are very unrealistic, unchallenging police, not much backup, they easily forget you if you kill 4 cops with a bat on the street, the gun sounds are pretty cool.

4. Umm... the Graphics are amazing. I thought the animations were very convincing...seems like some MO-Cap was done. Lots of cursing. I thought the reactions of people getting hit by cars was awesome! Expanded Flame I must disagree with you there.

Also the frame rate during the in-engine cut scenes slowed down...but otherwise frame rate was not an issue during game play.

I didn't have time to run through the mission yet.

5. I thought the physics were very good. I dont have a problem with the game at all. It has everythign that GTA didnt have. I like this game. Again I am a GTA fan adn that is why I like this game. If people really dont liek gta they may not like this game. I thought the game was doen very well. I really like that if you hti a car head on fast the person will fly out the front window.

6. I'll agree the frame rate was an issue at most times, but once your able to settle for 30-45fps its okay you get use to it. And yeah the game sucks, thats right i said it. but it sucks only if you go into the game and run around doing whatever you want. But where as when you go and play the missions, listen through the story and begin to immerse your self into the game/world of saints row. Then the game is f'n AMAZING... This will be the GTA killer of all time. I cant wait for the end of the month when this puppy hits shelves. p.s. you cant beat reviving hoes witha 40 and taking out their pimps.. LOL

7. People are reporting that the demo that was available on the demo discs in the US does not have the slowdown on the cut scenes, must be a slightly older build on the xbox live marketplace demo

8. Kick butt Demo! I hated when the coming soon part came up at after the meeting; I wanted to keep playing

9. Here is my impression of the demo:

I've played for about 30 minutes and I already like it way more than GTA. This is no half-baked spoof. It's the real deal. The funny part is the people are fucking nuts. There are many, many people roaming the streets. In fact, they jump right in front of your fucking car! Thank god the cops do show up too much. Cause you WILL run over people. I'm driving along, and all of a sudden, a see a body fly up in the air at least 30 feet up. Probably the funnest thing I've seen in a while. Reminds me of hitting deer in Smuggler's Run. Another time these 3 jogger chicks come up to me and start punching my homie. Then more of them came, so I got the hell out of there as soon as I could.

The fact that the people will actually fight you makes this game so much fun. Another fun addition is the ability to recruit homies that will follow you and kill whomever you start attacking. For some reason, a large black woman wearing a dress that was reminiscent of a cow started hurting my hommie. Luckily more Saints showed up and didn't hesitate to beat and kick her to a pulp.

I will probably end up playing the demo instead of actually buying the game. Dead Rising is coming! But I urge you all to play the demo. The only turn off is the download time because of the large demo size. But you can always just leave your 360 on. If you were a fan of GTA you will love this game.

10. It's got that sort of toonish look, but fluid animations and excellent controls make it a shoe-in for an online gang-busin good time. Screw auto-aim son!

11. The demo was pretty cool the frame rates went down when driving and The Demo Was AWSOME!!! I love this game its like GTA but better!!!well I give the demo 8/10 it was pretty cool.

12. If the physics are so great in this demo, then why in the hell does my car fly 30 feet in the air whenever I head-on collide with another vehicle. It's ridiculous how terrible it is. This game just plays like a two-bit GTA clone. About the only thing I like about Saints is the ability to use the aiming reticule while driving.

13. I'm sick of hearing this crap that every f'ing thing is a clone of something IF YOU THINK way back when there was a game before another game. So, hence every game is a clone with new features. I think this game is wonderful and would be inmproved apon in the actual release. I don't look at the downers unless its an absolutely obvious one and in my opinion the gamers themselfs are a bunch of two faced hypocrits. The only thing that matters to me is gameplay. If its not fun its not worth it. By the way the only GTA I ever liked was Vice City the rest were crap.

14. Who wants real physics with a game like this? I like the over-the-top, movie like physics.

Posted at 9:13PM on Aug 1st 2006 by M-ACE 0 stars

15. yeah but the game feals lonly and it feels like it just has no good pysic software on it, it does have decent graphics, also when your on the road drving a car the arent much people on the streets or on the raod, it feels like a first gen game. this will probably change when the real thing comes out.

16. I really enjoyed the demo. I have had very few slowdowns with my demo...I am playing the one from oxm. I wasn't expecting much and came away suprised with how good it was.

17. I love the humor, and the unrealisticness of the whole game. Very arcade feel. Very fun, takes the san andreas style and kicks its ass. Good stuff

18. if you love GTA, you'll love this.

The game also has an awesome voice cast (Michael Rapaport!!!)

19. I love free demos as much as the next guy but this was dissapointing.

I guess if your vocabulary consists entirely of four letter words, you hang out in your small town mall all day in a pit-sweat stained Eminem shirt with a bad bleach job and dream of being a "gansta"(Kansas has to have some? Right?)then this demo is right up your alley!

Otherwise it is a mediocre GTA clone that barely passes as a stand in until the real deal arrives. At least in GTA part of the humor is it's being over the top.

Maybe if there was a "Mystery Science Theater 3000" for games this could become a "so bad its good" classic.
