Apparently we were so busy playing GOW yesterday -- playing co-op with all of you is great by the way -- we failed to notice Penny Arcade's latest comic. If you're absolutely sick of all the hyperbole surrounding this game (or if by some off chance you actually like the idea), you'll find the idea of turning Gears of War into a sitcom fairly amusing. It brings up an interesting point though. For those of you who've played the game (and were able to find it), how is it stacking up so far? Does it live up to the hype, or are you happy playing something completely different?
Gears of War: the sitcom?

(Page 1)2. I actually picked up my copy on Tuesday and I am loving it. I do wish the Single Player was longer. After 2 days I am just about done with the main story. I will go back and play it again on the harder difficulties, but still. And, I am loving the Multiplayer. It's crazy and frantic and just loads of fun.

3. I'm playing with a friend on local split screen... this game is better than what I expected! although I wish it would split vertically instead of horizontally.

4. Picked it up yesterday and I absolutely love it! I've never been so sucked into a game so fast. At first, the contextual A button felt a little wonky, but since I've gotten used to it, I'm really digging it.
Only problem, has anyone had problems joining multiplayer games? I keep getting a search result, and then when I say join match, it immediately says "lost connection to host" or something like that.

5. it's the same as when i first played Tony Hawk, riding the bus to work thinking, "i could grind that rail over there". only now I'm thinking of hitting A to cover behind that garbage can over there.

6. I played it last night at my church with two Xboxes, one per projector and it was amazing. Across the church sound system I was blown away.
But sadly! I don't have mine yet because of Fed-Ex!

7. I didn't really follow the hype until about a week before the game came out, so I don't know what the hype has really been like up til now but I do now that Gears of War is a really awesome game. I've been playing since Tuesday and I'm still getting used to the controls and such. The game is also incredibly difficult. From single player to multiplayer it's hard. I suppose that's a good thing though. I just don't understand how I'll ever get better on Xbox Live if I keep getting fragged within the first few minutes of each game.

I'm getting the same connection problems. I don't think that it is anything to worry about. However, when I host games I get virtually no connect errors - plus it streamlines the process of getting into battle a bit.
I think they did a wonderful job with the Lag - or lack of. I have a shity connection (256 up & down) and have zero lag like you find with Call of Duty 3 & Chromehounds.
As far as the A Button - Its works very well as far as gameplay - but I think the result of pressing A a seeing the result on screen is a bit choppy.
Oh well, who the fuck cares, its an awsome game!

9. I had the same issues shawn didnt know if it was just my isp or not. It was funny tuesday no one on my friends list (3 signed on) had the game, so they were all asking me how it was while I was playing. Then last night I got on and there were 10 people signed on and 9 were playing GOW. It is amazing. I just wish my coworker could play his, but he popped it in and red ringed last night, :(

10. this game absolutely lived up to all of the hype. ALL of the hype. This may be the newness talking, but it's well on its way to becoming my favorite game of all time.

Playing gears of war in a church? Proof that religous people, especially christians, are hypocrits.

12. I think it's lived up to all the hype. I'm about half way through the single player, and while it isn't the most compelling story, the action and graphics definitely make up for any shortcomings. The xbox live play is what makes this game so special. Now I just hope they come out with a patch for all the connection errors.

13. Best graphics I've ever seen, and the gameplay is incredible. So much attention to detail, it's really amazing. Well worth any amount of hype.
I've been playing on hardcore to try to lengthen the single player game. Co-op is amazing- you just jump right in to the game, wherever your partner is . No lag, no slowdown, just awesome.
And I haven't even scratched multiplayer yet...

14. I picked up my copy yesterday at Hastings. I tried Gamestop first but the dorks didn't have their shipment in yet. I refuse to preorder anything. I would rather earn interest in my money than let them.
Anywho...I popped in the game and was amazed that All of the Hype was true! I have been waiting for this game since I picked up my 360 at launch last year. This is what I have been waiting for. Even my wife, who doesn't get into many games said "wow, this game is badass!" She was at awe with the sweet graphics, easily the best I have ever seen. Yup, this could be the game of the year in my opinion. The active reload, COG tags, multiple paths, etc will keep me playing and interested in this game. Way to go Microsoft and Epic!

15. "Playing gears of war in a church? Proof that religous people, especially christians, are hypocrits." (3 typos = idiot)
So we are "hypocrits" for playing a video game in a church? Did Shaumarai even say anything about Christian? All he was trying to say was that the sound system at his church is awesome and that he was able to play GOW on it. Get over it monkeyass, or just go to another forum. That kind of talk around here is not acceptable.
Back to what this forum is really about!!! I plan on getting the game tomorrow and all of my friends say it is worth the $60 for the single player alone.

16. I would have to agree with most of the comments here already... Got mine yesterday after work and played the campain mode for about 4 hours and I was hooked from the first minute.... love the way the action just zooms in and out at certain point.. felt very filmatic, especially with my suround system blasting!..... scratched the multiplayer for a few rounds and got my ass handed to me but it was still a blast.... cant wait to get home later and play some more!

17. I beat the Campaign today, I finished off the last chunk I had in about half an hour, haha, should have stayed up a little later last night just to complete it!
Best off all, the ending didn't leave me rabid for more with a sense of heartbreak like Halo 2, they put you down nicely and you really get a feel for how this really was just their "Emergence".
Multiplayer, while absolutely fun, can at times be a bit of a bear. I just played, roughly, an hour long game which went to five points and was fairly back and forth the whole time, and I felt like every round I just got my ass stomped, or head rather. My guess is there was some sort of minor host lag, because it was the same person killing me every time, and my shotgun wouldn't do shit to them when I was mere feet away. In any case, the majority of my experience with the Multiplayer is a positive one, and I plan on continuing with playing it from here on out. It's too damn fun not to!

18. @11
That was by far the stupidest thing ive ever heard. Im actually almost offended. If you didnt know, many, many youth groups have xbox rooms with halo in each one. This is a way of reaching out to people because it makes Church sound intertesting to non Christians. Are Christians hypocrits becaause they are reaching out to people by having the best new games? You really need to get your head out of your ass. Find some other statement to base your idiocy on.

19. I waited two and 1/2 hours at gamestop to get mine and it was worth every bit of time and money. I also have the "host connection" problem but ill be playing story mode untill they fix it.
I heard it was kinda short but im sure on the harder difficulties you'll spend over twice the time on each level.

20. The campaign is awesome BUT the multiplayer bugs the crap out of me. Like the comments above, i keep getting connection host lost problems. I don't get it.
Rant:
Halo 2 multiplayer format is so successful (log in, quick match, and system automatically matches you to a game), why don't they just copy that??? I'm tired of having to wait for everyone to press ready, stop chatting, then by the time the host presses start, someone leaves and then the whole waiting process starts over again. sigh...
