Microsoft's little mp3 player that could the Argo ... I mean Zune has hit retailers today! Yes, I know this is a blog about Xbox 360 and not mp3 players, point taken. But, have you forgotten the rumors that the 360 and Zune would play nice and possibly be able to show off some gamercard goodness? And of course Microsoft makes the Xbox 360 and Zune, both headed up by our buddy J Allard. Hmm, I think this whole post was about me trying to justify why there should be Zune news on this blog. Go buy your Zune today! (Zune news will be sparse from here on. I plomise.)

(Page 1)2. Dustin, please keep the Zune news away from "XBox 360 Fanboy". You're more than welcome to create "Zune Fanboy", but I visit this site for news and opinions about the XBox 360, not Microsoft's audio player. Mixing the two dilutes what this site is about, and would me me less interested in this site's content.

3. Chappy chill out the zune and 360 are made by the same ms division and they do relate to each other. I also have a strong feeling we will see them integrated much more in the near future also. If you dont want to read about the zune its as easy as skipping to the next article.
I just got my zune today and people either love it or hate it but most people who actually used it love it. The user interface is nice and much friendlier than ipods, also better looking. The outside of the zune is scratch resistant and the headphones have magnets to keep them from tangeling. Also the software automatically found cover art for nearly every song i have. Itunes didnt come close to finding all of them. Anyone who tried the gigabeat and like it will like the zune. and the gigabeat got better reviews than the ipod.

4. I might get one. It is better then the Ipod all around and my Ipod broke. I love the design and FM radio too.
Any news of Xbox Live anywhere on the Zune?

6. so like 85% of my music is "downloads" you know the kind. (bitcomet) catch my drift... anyone have any info on how well the zune plays with these non zune marketplace purchased songs. Also how is the zune player on the computer? is it comparable to itunes in terms of orgonization of music and good playback options, or is more like wmp where you have to search for the songs u want to play, it has no realy library, no playlist features etc. NEWS WANTED. Come on its like the 360's younger brother

7. I wanted to know if the Zune is compatible with macs. I'm getting tired of using an iPod lately and need something with a much better interface. However I have a Mac so most probably Microsoft will be reluctant to support it.

10. the zune works with illegal downloads, just not with any service where you had to buy your music. and honestly i think it kicks major ass, setup was a breeze and the the zune network is loaded with stuff!

11. Marc, the zune plays unprotected mp3s, wav, acc, etc... just fine.
The software isn't quite like iTunes. If you just click "library" you get an alphebetical listing of artists which you can navigate through to get that artist's albums and then songs. There are also sub-menus which allow you to see listings of all the albums, songs, genres, years or ratings in your library (there is a menu containing "recently added items"). If you wanted to navigate like you would in iTunes you would click on the Songs menu which automatically sorts the songs by artist/album. All of this is searchable with a search feature that is as good or better than the one on the iTunes.
The playlists are can be accessed a lot like you would in iTunes. With a playlist menu in the sidebar above the library selections. They can also be viewed like Windows Media Player if you want, with a popup "now playing" section on the right. This doubles as a burn/sync menu.
The marketplace is viewable a lot like the library is, with an obvious mind toward subscription use. Pre-made playlists are also avalible.
The whole setup is an interesting merge of iTunes and WMP and it is versitile and pretty solid in its own regard. I have been using it for most of a week now and--though its not perfect--i am pretty happy with it. The best subscription integration I have seen by far.

12. I checked out the Zune today at Best Buy. They had two on display and no accessories, and no special display. It was simply among all the other MP3 players.
There was the brown model, which I found extremely ugly, and the black model, which is decent looking, but certainly no iPod.
Controls were simple to use, and they had a lot of obscure content you could navigate to trial the unit... music, videos, and photos.
The controls were simple enough, but a friend of mine remarked, it felt slow to navigate.
I'm unclear on how or if this interfaces with the 360. If you could download games or movies on the 360 and transfer to the Zune, then I would certainly be interested.
As it is now, it's yet another music player, that happens to have a hard drive, it can display pictures like the current iPod, and movies, but oh yeah, it has a bigger screen.

13. All this fuss about the Zune. The bottom line is that Apple has a huge lead with the iPod, and the Zune isnt gonna touch it. So many other companies have tried, and they have failed. I cannot see the iPod losing a significant portion of the market share at any time in the future.

14. thanks guys, thinking about it, although i do have a working ipod so i dont know if there is a need. However if the 360 integration is super-slick i might think harder. Anyone have info on how it interfaces with the 360? (especially dont like the fact that when ipod is hooked up to 360 max songs that can be played from a playlist is 100)

16. I saw them on display at Target today and was shocked at how big they were. I was thinking of getting one to replace my dying 4th gen ipod, but the Zune is easily 1.5 times as big. A little to bulky for me. The screen did look outstanding while playing video, though.

17. I too was stunned by how big they were. The size alone completely threw me off. I don't really know but I have a feeling that the zune software is mimicking wmp 11 and I absolutely HATE wmp 11. loved wmp 10 but god, what the hell happened when they designed wmp 11? I saw it, used it, and decided I did not want to be a part of Vista if the programs were going to be like it.
That was a large part of why I switched to Mac. Now I couldn't be any more happier with my macbook and iPod nano.
But to keep things on track. Wii60 ftw!

1. Watch as the next update *accidentally* breaks the iPod support on the 360, and subliminally placed Zune logos litter the Marketplace
